The fun lives everywhere else on this site. This page is where we explain, once, how FactCat respects the people and projects its facts and pictures come from.

Our words

Every article and narration on this site is FactCat original writing. The facts themselves start from Wikipedia articles, and every case links to the article it began with. We never copy Wikipedia's text, which is licensed CC BY-SA; the storytelling here is our own.

Images

A photo reaches an article in one of three ways, depending on its licence:

• Openly licensed images (public domain, CC0, CC BY, Pexels, Pixabay) and FactCat's own artwork are shown on the page, resized, with the credit, licence, and a source link under each photo.
• CC BY-SA images are shown directly from Wikimedia Commons' servers rather than copied here, with the same credit line.
• Non-free images (film posters, for example) are never shown on the page. We link to their source page instead; when one appears in a video, it is used under the source wiki's documented fair-use rationale.

Footage

Video footage comes from openly licensed and public-domain collections. Clips that require attribution are credited on screen, in the video description, and in the article's credits block.
